When you don't want to get out of bed and you're also not depressed.

You love your life. You experience beauty, connection, joy, pleasure, and purpose-based living every day.

And some mornings, you just don’t want to get out of bed and get going.

Some people will tell you to make sure you include handfuls of pleasurable moments during your day and experiences that you can look forward to, and that will get you flying up and attem. 

I’m not going to feed you that lie. I mean, its true… but it’s like baby food. 

The truth is… you can fill your day with inspiration, light, nature, service-based living, family, friends, laughter, enjoyment, movement… and still find yourself not wanting to get out of bed. 

As a highly sensitive, empathic, spiritual, health-conscious and intention-driven woman, its very likely you are moving through some challenging things or transcending a lot of darkness in order to fully embody your light. 

You are leaving your disempowered self and coming into your priestess truth. 

And sometimes, that’s really freaking hard.

I get it. 

There’s this idea floating across the web and the world that once you find your purpose and start living a service-based life that you love… you’ll float out of bed at 5am and jump in joy to be alive. 

While that’s obviously all nice and sexy and we can all experience it at times, it doesn’t have to be your every day experience. 

I have some tools for you if you don’t want to get out of bed in the morning and if you’re also not depressed. (The reason this article is for you if you’re also not depressed on the regular is because thats a whole other topic.) 

But first… can you imagine how easy and fluid your day would be if on these days you didn’t make yourself wrong? 

What if you snuggled in, turned on some delicious music, and caressed your body with love for a little longer? Yum. 

Because living in this world and having a body is not always easy, and it gets a whole of a lot easier when there’s no shame involved. 


This year, I’ve personally gotten quite used to the feeling of waking up and not wanting to get out of bed… more than I ever have before.

At the end of 2016, I had a sacrum injury (way too many unhealthy backbends) and there are particular mornings that I wake up in tremendous pain. I don’t share this for a pity party, of course. But honestly, its been really hard. 

I know myself most when I move. Yoga. Dance. Climb. Repeat. 

My usual is to wake up first thing and jump out of bed to stretch, to meditate, to move my body… This is what I jumped out of bed for in the past. It’s what I love. And this year, I’ve had to get used to not being able to exactly do that. 

I’ve gotten used to this rather uncomfortable feeling of not wanting to wake up. As a positive excited-to-be-alive, body-loving  light worker who gets lit by her work in the world… this one has been a hunch.


Not wanting to get out of bed in the morning doesn’t make you any less spiritual, any less successful, and less sexy, any less enlightened, any less healthy, and less healed, any less confident or alive or rich. 

There are so many things you can do to change your relationship with this reality and make it the most expansive it can be. Here they are. 

1.Change your Relationship with What it Means 

The meaning we put behind anything is what our subconscious believes. 

If you believe that not wanting to hop out of bed first things makes you lazy, unsuccessful, and stupid… then it will.

You actually get to decide what it means. 

What if your body desperately needed the rest? What if it meant you got really deep sleep, traveling to other dimensions and worlds? What if it was a signal to give yourself delicious sensual self practice and relish in the comfort of your sheets?

At Landmark we learn that we are “meaning making machines.” If instead.. we let go of what other people have told us staying in bed means and created a new meaning behind it or simply let it be as it was… the heaviness associated would fall away. 

2.Ask Good Questions

Any morning that I feel as if I don’t want to get up and face the world… I ask myself an assortment of these questions to get to the bottom of what’s going on. 

“Is there something I’m trying not to feel?”

“Where am I not loving myself?”  

If you’re trying not to feel something, feel it. If you’re holding love from yourself in a place in your body or mind or life, give it to yourself. Yes, it’s simply a choice. 

3.Move Energy

On one of these days, after I ask myself these questions… I start waking my body up with loving touch.

Moving around in your bed while touching every part of your body for pleasure and healing and love… is a nice start. 

I will also often allow energy to move by taking deep exhales to let whatever sound pass through my body. If I’m feeling particularly ‘in a mood’ its typical for me to allow that expression out by roaring like a lion or squirming around like a fish out of water.

I believe that feelings are simply energy and they can leave our body by our conscious will.

I will then do a bit of reiki on my body and move into a breast massage (which sometimes leads into a long self pleasure practice… and that’s the realest game changer for a mood!)

At this point, I’m ready to get up and start my morning spiritual practice of the day out of love, devotion, and excitement. 

And yes, all of this comes before the meditation and all that jazz.
